I hear women say this a lot, usually quietly.

“I feel lost.”

Often followed by something like,

“I don’t know why though, nothing’s actually wrong.”

From the outside, life can look fine. You’re functioning. You’re doing what’s expected. You’re keeping things moving.

But inside, there’s a sense that something doesn’t quite fit anymore.

Not dramatic.

Not a crisis.

Just… off.

That feeling often gets labelled as being lost.

But I don’t think that’s always what it is.

Sometimes, you’re not lost at all.

You’re in transition.

Transitions don’t usually announce themselves. They don’t come with clear signs or big moments. More often, they show up quietly.

Things you used to tolerate start to feel heavier.

Goals that once motivated you don’t land the same way.

You find yourself questioning things you never questioned before.

And because nothing obvious has changed, it’s easy to assume you are the problem.

This can feel especially uncomfortable if you’re someone who’s always been capable. The one who figures things out. The one people rely on. Feeling unsure can feel like failure — even when it isn’t.

There’s an in-between space that no one really talks about.

You’re no longer who you were, but you’re not yet who you’re becoming.

That space can feel empty. Unsettling. It can create a strong urge to rush, decide, or “fix” things just to feel solid again.

But this part isn’t meant to be rushed.

It’s a recalibration.

A quiet internal shift.

A loosening of old expectations and identities that no longer fit.

Nothing has gone wrong.

You might be in transition if you notice:

  • You’re questioning old goals rather than chasing new ones

  • You feel restless but resistant to big decisions

  • You’re tired of pushing, but unsure what comes next

  • You sense something wants to change, even if you can’t name it yet

This isn’t a lack of direction.

It’s a pause before a new one forms.

Instead of forcing clarity, it can help to ask gentler questions:

What am I outgrowing?

What feels heavier than it used to?

What would I stop doing if I trusted myself more?

Clarity doesn’t usually come from pressure.

It comes after space.

If you’re here right now, you don’t need to fix anything.

You’re allowed to take your time.

Sometimes “feeling lost” is simply the feeling of becoming someone new.
